'The Most Wonderful Time of the Year'

I know, I know, it's really a song about Christmas celebrations, but I always find myself singing my own version once the leaves begin to turn gold and fall from the trees, and the cool days of fall bless us with bright blue skies and fluffy white clouds.  Autumn is truly my 'most wonderful time of the year', and a perfect time to finally begin to share some recipes and sewing and craft projects.

The lazy days of summer are a thing of the past, and my home is now beginning to bustle with activity once again as I pull out from hiding all my wonderful soup and stew recipes, and begin new sewing and craft project for, and with, my little Aidan.

On beautiful sunny days I am drawn outdoors to work in the garden preparing the flower and veggie beds for the long winter ahead.  When the weather is rainy and cool, I am able to stay indoors cooking and sewing.  The best of both worlds!

Last Halloween, my little munchkin decided he would like a dinosaur costume to wear 'trick or treating'...

Rawrrrr!

"Can we go now, Nana"?

I used Simplicity pattern number 1765A for the dinosaur costume.  While I was sewing on dinosaur spots, I came across a blog called Family Chic which showed a tutorial for the 'moveable mummy' shown below...I just had to make one for my daughter!

This year, our interests have evolved from dinosaurs to dragons!  One dragon in particular...'Toothless' the 'night fury' from the movie 'How to Train Your Dragon'.  Sure enough, I got the phone call I knew was coming, 'Nana, can you make me a 'toothless' costume for Halloween?
As luck would have it, I was able to 'modify' the dinosaur pattern I had used last year, and voila!!!...

On Halloween's past, my little Aidan has been both a 'skeleton' and 'superman'. While Nana didn't make either of those costumes, he looked very cute none the less...

A rather pudgy skeleton!

A crabby, cranky Superman!
Two Halloween costumes I did make in the past were 'Thomas the Tank Engine', which was my own design, and the 'I want to be Papa' costume, which grew from instructions I found for the child's tool belt and suspenders on a great blog called Make It and Love It

A little 'spooked out' by Thomas!

"Look Nana, I'm Papa"!

Now that this year's costume is all ready, it's time to move on to decorating the 'Halloween Tree' and making up treats for the kids at school.  Stay tuned!
